How we score confinement centres in Malaysia

The composite score

Every listing gets a score from 0 to 100, built from five measured signals. Each one is calculated from public data tied to the business, then combined using the weights below.

Why sentiment carries the most weight

Two confinement centres can sit at the same 4.3-star average and be very different places to spend a month with a newborn. One might have a string of recent reviews all pointing at the same soft spot: confinement food that arrives cold, a night nurse who's hard to reach, rooms that don't get cleaned on schedule. The star average alone won't show you that pattern; it just gives you a single blended number. Reading what recent reviewers actually describe is the only way to catch a repeated problem before it becomes yours. That's why sentiment is weighted above the raw star rating, not instead of it. Rating still matters, which is why it's the second-heaviest signal, but it's read alongside the substance of the reviews, not on its own.

Why the other signals matter

Volume tells you how much you can trust the rating and sentiment behind a score. A centre with 6 reviews and one with 260 shouldn't be treated as equally certain, so review count is log-scaled into the score rather than ignored or counted one-for-one. Completeness rewards centres that make themselves easy to check and book: a listed phone number, working website, posted hours and a clear address all reduce the guesswork of choosing a confinement centre, which usually involves a deadline and a due date. Recency matters because a confinement centre can change hands, change staff, or change standards; a glowing review from three years ago tells you less than a handful of comments from the last few months.

Low-confidence scores

Businesses with few recent reviews don't get hidden, but they do get a lower-confidence score, and we label that on the listing itself. A score built on three reviews from a year ago is not the same kind of evidence as one built on eighty reviews from the last six months, and we don't pretend otherwise.

If any list on this site has picks or ordering that were editor-reviewed rather than purely score-driven, that is disclosed on the page it appears on.
